Young Writers’ City participants win Northern Rock Talent Fund support

In January 2017, three Young Writers’ City participants from Excelsior Academy were selected to receive funding from the Northern Rock Foundation Talent Fund.

The Northern Rock Foundation Talent fund is a funding programme run by New Writing North targeting young people aged 15-25 who live in Newcastle upon Tyne. The fund invests in talent, ambition and good ideas in the fields of literature and writing, with the intention of making a significant impact on the recipient’s ability to pursue their talent and ideas.

Working with mentors the young people will each recruit a group of their peers to work on their own project for which they will have full creative control. The projects include writing an E.P. with the support of songwriter Jennie Brewis, creating a computer game narrative with support from Steven Walker and developing raps and performance with rapper and actor Kema Kay.

Keep your eye on the Young Writers’ City pages to see their work as it develops, and maybe get involved with playing the computer game they are creating.
