This summer, Cuckoo has a creative writing summer school for every taste – join us for everything from song writing to dark fiction, writing sketches to creating your own comic!

Cuckoo Young Writers’ Summer Schools are for young people aged 12-19 who are interested in creative writing. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve already got a novel on your memory stick or you just want to try something new and have a go: CUCKOO NEEDS YOU.

And it’s all totally FREE!

We’ve got a pick ‘n’ mix style summer school in South Shields, where you can try out loads of different styles and genres of creative writing! Pick one or two or come along to them all – it’s up to you!

Wednesday 9 August, 11am-1pm: Writing songs with Jennie Brewis (The Cornshed Sisters)
Wednesday 9 August, 2pm-4pm: Dark fiction (horror, dystopias etc!) with Matt Wesolowski
Thursday 10 August, 11am-1pm: Fan Fiction with Carina Rodney
Thursday 10 August, 2pm-4pm: Writing for Wattpad with James Whitman
Friday 11 August, 11am-4pm: Create your own Comic with Andy Waugh

Join songwriters Ross Millard (The Futureheads) and Natasha Haws for three days of writing lyrics and crafting tunes. We welcome experienced songwriters and those who want to try song writing for the first time (and everything in between!).

Join writer and director Laura Lindow for three days of writing sketches, monologues and poetry which will all be performed at the end of the week in your very own sketch show! Don’t worry if you’re nervous about performing – you can still come along and write for other members of the group (and you might just change your mind!).
