This special award is for talented young people aged 12-18 years old who want to develop their interest in writing and literature, whatever the form (fiction, journalism, poetry, blogging, drama, songwriting etc.) but who lack the opportunity to do so. The winner will receive a bespoke package of “stuff” worth £500, which will be tailored to the needs of the individual winner- so it might be a laptop, opportunities to travel to arts events, books etc.
Last year’s winner, Jowita Krasik, was nominated by editor of NARC. magazine Claire Dupree for her review writing for Cuckoo Review. Claire would urge EVERYONE to nominate a young person:
“It’s such a privilege to be able to support young writers in the region, and see them go on to broaden their skills and have experiences they wouldn’t otherwise be able to have. Nominating for the Matthew Hale Award can offer vital assistance to a young person who shows promise.”
