Gothic Cinema in Newcastle City Library

More and more libraries are closing across the country and it’s now more important than ever to show support for your local library.

So we’re moving our Newcastle Cuckoo Young Writers Group back to its old haunt, Newcastle City Library at its usual time 11am-1pm every Saturday from 5th November.

We’ve got a spooky new theme to go with our new home too. We’re going to be drawing on contemporary examples such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline as well as classics like Nosferatu to explore Gothic Cinema with Emily Wiseman and Lauren Vevers.

As the nights draw in come and delve into the darkness within your heart and explore the carnivalesque craft of Gothic Screenwriting with us at Newcastle Cuckoo. We will be developing our cinematic storytelling skills to create our own creepy concepts, construct twisted and compelling plot lines and build memorably macabre characters.

Learn about the essential considerations of format, structure, dialogue and action that are required to communicate our stories effectively on the page. Develop an understanding of what is required to take our screenplays to market by creating your own log lines, developing a strong pitch, designing movie posters and writing a screenplay treatment.

Don’t forget we have FIVE other Cuckoo groups across the North East. You can check them out here.

All groups are free to join and you can attend as many or as few sessions as you want.
