Come to a Cuckoo Young Writers’ Summer School!

This summer, Cuckoo has a creative writing summer school for every taste- join us for everything from song writing to crime fiction, spoken word to making poetry out of paper, scissors and glue!

Cuckoo Young Writers’ Summer Schools are for young people aged 12-19 who are interested in creative writing. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve already got a novel on your memory stick or you just want to try something new and have a go: CUCKOO NEEDS YOU.

And it’s all totally FREE!

MAKE POETRY IN NEWCASTLE/ GATESHEAD

Work with Stevie Ronnie and Lauren Vevers (who are both artists and writers) to explore the relationship between poetry and art. A unique opportunity to find out about making zines and artists’ books, and to look at visual forms for poetry inspired by the exhibitions at BALTIC.

EXPLORE SONGWRITING IN SUNDERLAND

Join songwriters Martin Longstaff (aka. The Lake Poets) and Natasha Haws for three days of writing lyrics and crafting tunes. The group will also be joined by local guest musicians who will share top song writing tips, and performances will be filmed at the end of the workshop for our new YouTube channel! We welcome experienced songwriters and those who want to try song writing for the first time (and everything in between!).

CRIME WRITING IN CRAMLINGTON

Become a crime writer and super-sleuth in Cramlington with writers Matt Wesolowski and Becky Orwin. Over two days you’ll find out all the tricks and techniques you need to write the perfect murder, and will come up with an ingenious solution to a crime specially written by Matt himself!
