Vertebrae by Jacob Armstrong

Bend the head 35ยบ left and 50 down
to hear the crack of bone on bone,
a tendon-pop or cartilage-rub.
Find with blind fingers the point
between sharp, curved blades
where the joints sigh on contact.
Run down the spine,
brushing bobbled rivets in bridge-steel,
down the central column, the imperfect design
where nuts and bolts argue and groan,
and bend to the pressure on the shoulders.
