Backstage by Laura Peto

Out shadowed by the lights of the big stage,
Caked and clouded in dirt and muck and dust.
More important than many people know,
Shrouded in a blanket of mystery.

Here all tricks and temptations shall be shown,
Stripped bare of all magic seen to the eye.
Here illusions and trickery can’t hide
And the unseen shall finally be seen.

Outcast and swept to the side by bright lights,
Audience is blissfully unaware
Of the secrets to this puzzling place,
While their eyes are set towards the vast stage.
