Child Protection and Safeguarding

Cuckoo Young Writers is committed to ensuring that all young people are given the opportunity to participate fully in our programme without being put at risk. We believe that young people should be treated with respect and dignity, and that they should be free to take part in Cuckoo activities in safety.

We have a zero tolerance approach to:

  • Bullying
  • Verbal, physical or sexual abuse
  • Discrimination of any sort

We reserve the right to temporarily or permanently exclude anyone whose behaviour is unacceptable.

All members of our staff and artists who work with us (for example, lead writers at Cuckoo writing groups) are asked to read and adhere to a Child Protection Code of Conduct.

However, if you ever feel anyone is behaving inappropriately, if you are being bullied or excluded, or have any other concerns, please let us know. If you are able, tell someone as soon as the incident occurs (e.g. a group leader or someone working on the project). If that is not appropriate, you can also get in touch with Anna Disley at the Cuckoo office using the contact details below.

After you have got in touch with us, we will do all we can to address your concerns and ensure your safety is protected. We will ensure you are kept up to date on what has happened and how we are dealing with it. However, we may have to tell a parent or guardian depending on the nature of what you disclose.
